Look at a copy of any newspaper.
- What is the name of the newspaper?
- What is the headline? Is there a picture on the front page? If so what does the picture show?
- What is the date of the paper? What is its price? How often is it published? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?
- Is the paper divided into sections? What do the different sections deal with?
- Is there a section for local or national news? Is there a section for regional and foreign news? On which pages are each of these found?
- Is there an editorial? What is an editorial? How is an editorial different from other articles in the newspaper?
- Is there a section for letters to the editor?
- ‘Ads’ is short form for advertisements. What are classified ads? Where are they found in the newspaper? Are there other advertisements? Where can you find them?
- Can you find cartoons or comic strips? If so where can you find them?
- Can you find crossword puzzles? On which pages?
- Are there graphs or tables? On which pages?
- Can you find hard news? Is there news about violence, robbery, cattle rustling, murder and other crimes?
