Mentally challenged
- The human brain enables a person’s body to move and gives one the ability to learn. However, some people’s brains do not develop properly.
- This may be as a result of a disease, accident or complications at birth.
- One whose brain is not properly developed will have difficulty in using his/her limbs and other body parts. One may also have difficulties in learning.
In Matthew 8:28-34, Jesus had approached the territory of Gadarenes.
- We are told of how He healed two mentally challenged men who were filled with evil spirits.
- The two men used to be so fierce that no man dared walk near them.
- Jesus prayed for them and they were healed.
- In our communities we have people who may have mental challenges living amongst us.
- Some are severely challenged while others are mildly challenged.
- Some mentally challenged children may have some difficulties in learning. Such children are taken to special schools that cater for people or children with special learning needs.
- In these schools they are taught by specially trained teachers who can help them learn.
- Those with milder challenges can learn and later become important people in the society.
How can we help them?
- Being patient with the mentally challenged.
- Encouraging their families to take them to special schools so that they can get specialised training.
- Supporting them as they carry out their daily activities.
- Praying for them.
