The orphans
- Orphans are children whose parents have died. There are many such children around us. Orphaned children sometimes do not have an adult to take care of them.
- They may therefore lack food, shelter and clothing.
- In( Deuteronomy 26:12 )we are instructed, “Every third year, give as tithe a tenth of your crops to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows so that every community will have all they need to eat.”
- God loves and cares for orphans. He is the Father of the fatherless.
- (James 1:27) says that God the Father considers taking care of orphans and widows in their suffering as pure and genuine religion.
What can we do to help the orphans?
- Orphans need to be loved and appreciated.
- Orphaned children are the responsibility of all of us in the society.Christians can support orphans by giving them food, clothes and shelter.
- As Christians we can also help the orphaned by taking them to our homes and caring for them.
- Christians can also provide orphans with guidance and counselling to help them grow up to be better people.
- Christians have set up orphanages in various places in Kenya. Examples of these orphanages are St. Bernado’s and Mama Ngina Children’s Homes in Nairobi.
