Bills

A bill shows the various items sold, their quantities, the price per unit item and cost.

Example of a bill

A house help bought 4 kg of baking flour @ Sh 40, 3 litres of corn oil @ Sh 97 and 2 bars of soap @ Sh 51.

She paid the bill with three 200-shilling notes.

Use this information to prepare her bill and work out the balance.

Solution

  • 4 kg of baking flour @ Sh 40 - means that each kg of baking flour cost Sh 40, therefore 4 kgs will be (4kgs x Sh40) = Sh 160

  • 3 litres of corn oil @ Sh 97 - means that each litre of corn cost Sh 97, hence 3 litres will cost (3litres x Sh 97)= Sh 291

  • 2 bars of soap @ Sh 51 - one bar of soap cost Sh 51, therefore 2 bars of soap will cost (2 bars x Sh 51) = Sh 102

To get total bill: add Sh 160 to Sh 291 and Sh 102

Look at the table below:

Item Quantity @ Sh Ct
Baking Flour 4kg 40 160 00
Cooking Oil 3 litres 97 291 00
Soap 2 Bars 51 102 00
TOTAL     553 00

Amount given

  = Sh(3 X 200)

  = Sh 600

Balance

   = Sh 600 – Sh 553

   = Sh 47
